According to Romans 6:11-16 it states, "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace?
By no means! Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
Many take this verse out of context and are deceived. They say that because Jesus came we can do away with the laws found in the Old Covenant and follow just the New Covenant. They feel that don't have to follow the law found in the Old Testament. They are so wrong!
In Bible times, when a person sinned they were taken outside the camp and stoned to death. However, since Jesus came to fulfill the law then you are no longer stoned to death but under grace by faith you are able to go to Christ and ask for forgiveness. You can keep His commandments without the fear of dying and our lives should reflect our Heavenly Father. This fact doesn't mean we shall sin for the fun of it, but instead it means we have the choice to choose right verses wrong. Salvation is a free gift so apply the Laws to our lives.
