Deception: I'm Now Under Grace, so I Can Do Whatever I Want and Not Follow the Old Covenant Laws!
According to Romans 6:11-16 it states, "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
Many take this verse out of context and are deceived. They say that because Jesus came we can do away with the laws found in the Old Covenant and follow just the New Covenant. They feel that don't have to follow the law found in the Old Testament. They are so wrong!
In Bible times, when a person sinned they were taken outside the camp and stoned to death. However, since Jesus came to fulfill the law then you are no longer stoned to death but under grace by faith you are able to go to Christ and ask for forgiveness. You can keep His commandments without the fear of dying and our lives should reflect our Heavenly Father. This fact doesn't mean we shall sin for the fun of it, but instead it means we have the choice to choose right verses wrong. Salvation is a free gift so apply the Laws to our lives.
Below are some Bible verses :
Deuteronomy 28:15 (NIV) However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you.
Deuteronomy 6:1-2 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.
“Matthew 15: 2-9 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”
Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.'"
2 Timothy 3:16-17:“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
Ps. 119:165 “Those who love Your Law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stumble.”
Ps. 119:1 “How blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the Law of the LORD.
1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
Romans 2:13 “For not the hearers of the Law are just before God, but the doers of the Law shall be justified.”
Romans 3:20 “Therefore by the deeds of the Law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”
Romans 7:12 “Wherefore the Law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.”
